What Is a River Table? The river table is a hybrid table made of two pieces of wood with a gap in between filled with deep pour epoxy resin. It is called this because the epoxy resin portion in in the
middle – with wooden planks on either side – resembles a flowing river stream.
We use primarily Black Walnut wood for our tables. Black walnut has several different colors imbedded in its grain. However, any hardwood can be used. Our process is as described below: First, a slab is picked out by either us or the customer. Next, it is prepared for the mold. Sanding and final sizing is completed in this stage. Then the slab is placed and secured into its mold. This is followed by pouring of epoxy which needs about 10 days to cure. The mold is then checked for any imperfections. Once the table is removed from the mold, it is flattened and prepared for finish. The finishing process begins with a sanding process. The table is sanded about 50 times. We start with 80 grain, then 120, 180, 240, 320, 400, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, 5000, 10000 grain sanding. This is a long process well worth the end result of a silky smooth perfect table.
We can make any type of table you want: coffee tables, kitchen tables, board room tables, conference tables, just about anything you want. We source our woods from Idaho and Indiana. All wood is reclaimed and kiln dried for extra long life.
