Our Adirondack chairs are make from an original 1941 template. This style originated in Westport NY, a region of the United States home to the Adirondack Mountains. This area had long presented a unique design challenge for those looking to lounge in outdoor furniture. Regular chairs just didn’t work on the frequent and steep slopes that gave the region its breathtaking views. Chairs with a level bottom left those who sat down pitching forward at an alarming angle and made tipping over forward a potential hazard. Experimenting with different angles and configurations until they found one that was just right: the original Adirondack featured a sloped seat and a solid piece of wood as the backrest.
Our chairs use two different woods: pine and cedar. Pine is shown painted white. Cedar is a natural color with clear sealant.
